What's New

Web Site Changes

This is where we'll announce the most recent additions to our web site. If you've visited us before and want to know what's changed, take a look here first.

January 2008: Reflecting on 2007, it certainly was a banner year for us! One MBA degree earned, one conformation judgeship earned, two NHCs earned and one gorgeous litter whelped. Yup, lots of exciting happenings around here for 2007. As I look back on what I wrote about Star's litter:

"
This cross brings together all my lines, both old and new. Star's pedigree reads like a who's-who of JRT royalty as she carries the inimitable terriers Vagabond Voodoo, Conquest Rebound, Fox Run Rivet, Garon's Sailor, Quarrystone Victor, and  Riverview Flare (several times). Of course, Reckless is also no slouch in the outstanding pedigree area having both an enviable tail male as well as tail female line. Reckless also carries several crosses to Riverview Flare as well as the excellent hunting bitches Clay Dale Keisha and Conquest Chaos. Even though Chaos, like her daughter Dauntess, was hell on wheels in the hunt field, she was also the 1999 JRTCA National Conformation Champion. Reckless' pedigree is full of past JRTCA National Champions and Reserve National Champions including: Windermere Sizzle, Camelot Derby, Foxwarren Floyd, Fox Run Risk and Foxfield Flex.

Crossing Star with Reckless doubles up on Conquest Rebound with the hope that his superior shoulder and elegant carriage will be reproduced. Both Star and Reckless themselves offer outstanding compressible chests, superb coats, correct structure and solid temperaments. This should be a cross to watch!!"

Indeed, that cross did produce magic. Out of five puppies, four were of breeding quality with exceptional chests, structure and movement. I had a very difficult time choosing which one to keep for myself. But, in the end, I chose Cookie (originally known at #1) to keep. While JellyBean certainly was gorgeous, the female embodiment of her two-times-grandpa, "Bob", I chose #1 mainly because of her irresistible personality and joie de vivre. She reminds me so much of my beloved Quarrystone Victor in personality; they both have a sense of humor and, I swear, laugh at me when they are naughty. With the sad loss of Victor in September, Cookie shines the light in our little pack of terriers as Vic did for so many years. It's still a great loss for me, and I mourn him tremendously. Soon I will man-up and build him a memory page, but not today...

I am so excited to get little Cookie into the hunt field this year! I see in her so many of my terriers, both her parents, ButterBean, Tussle, Victor, Dauntless...she is just such fun to watch. From day one, she had a nose on her, that one. She can sniff out a treat from 100' away and bee-line to the pocket it's in. She is small and flexible and comes in very handy for the other terriers when they are trying to flush the mice out of the pallets of brick and block we always have around here. (Ahh, the life of a wife of a mason!) She sure can get into some tight spaces, and has the drive to push into places I can't believe she can get to. You just never know how things are going to turn out, but I certainly do hope this little girl will grow into becoming the worker I hope she will be. Until then, I'm just going to keep having fun with her. She's a little love bug too and very often keeps my lap warm when I'm working at my desk. Yup, she's here now!

At the year begins, I'm not certain what will come, but I have a few loose plans. First, I will have to put my upgraded skills to work and find a job. It was wonderful to have the past several months off, I certainly did enjoy the more relaxed pace! But, I love the hustle and bustle of work too, so I'm looking forward to finding a great position this year. Next, I plan to make sure I am able to get out into the field as often as possible. Watch out working people! I'll be calling you! LOL

It will be a difficult choice to breed Nymph is she comes in heat during peak hunting season. It's so hard with the bitches, they lose months of good working time when they are in-whelp. And, Nymph is so wonderful about bringing along the excitement level of the other dogs in our pack. She really gets the competitive juices flowing, something none of my pack can resist! I see her as an important part of Cookie's working education so I'd hate to lose that influence. But, she is getting older and I don't want to lose that working ability for the future either. I'll just have to be flexible and see how things go. In fact, that's my favorite saying, just ask any of my good friends...we'll just see how things go...Finally, I plan to make it to a few terrier trials in 2008. My school schedule for the past several years really limited trials and, honestly, if it were a choice, I'd always choose to hunt anyway. But, I do miss my terrier friends and one can see lots of them all in one place at a terrier trial. :) I hope to meet new friends this year as well, as I take on a few judging assignments.

So, here's to a fabulous and fun 2008! I always hope for the best, but we'll just have to wait and see how things go...I leave you with the two cutest faces ever, Cookie (left) and her daddy Reckless (right):

October 2007: Fox Run Scoot has just whelped a litter by Orchard Hill Asset. Scoot is currently with Liane Paulson of Arizona. We have one puppy coming back from this cross, email us HERE if you'd like more information about this litter.

Meanwhile, Springwood Reckless has also been busy in the hunt field. Wombie has earned his second Natural Hunting Certificate, this time to raccoon, on September 30th. I couldn't be more proud of my boy!! He is really doing justice to his pedigree of great hunting dogs. Go Wombie!! I can't wait to get out in the field again with my boy and enjoy participating with him in doing what he loves to do.

September 2007:
Star's pups are doing wonderfully and growing by leaps and bounds. I can't believe they are already 4 weeks! They are a gorgeous group, and we are enjoying them immensely. Below are some updated pictures of the pups doing their puppy thang.

See, aren't they gorgeous?!? I'll try to continue to post updated pictures as the pups develop. They are now toddling around their room and have begun to eat soft food. Now the really fun stuff begins!

A few weeks ago my friends Sue Riley and Pat Marchetti were able to joing Rob McCaslin in the field for some hunting in Maine. There is always lots of quarry to be found and plenty of opportunities for the dogs to increase their skills. Nymph, of course, hit the ground running and worked fantastically as always. Bob has not seen the time in the field that Nymph has but he really showed his desire this weekend and successfully worked several groundhog. I'm pretty proud of the boy, at eight years of age, that he continues to get better and better with each visit to the hunt field. I had him out a fair bit as a youngster, but just when he was really getting interested, I was pregnant and then in school forcing me to cut back significantly on my time in the field for a few years. Hopefully, I'll be able to get out there much more often now.

Speaking of hunting, on the same weekend, Gaye Redpath had Reckless "Wombat" in the field hunting in Indiana. Gaye and I now co-own Reckless and he will get significantly more opportunity to hunt with her than I could have offered. This dog is bred for generations to be a hunter and he did not disappoint. Reckless earned his NHC to groundhog on his second day with Gaye holding it in place until he could be dug to. I am very proud of the "Wombat' and his accomplishments. He is a credit to his pedigree and I hope to be able to join him in the hunt field soon. His mother was an amazing worker and he seems to be following in her illustrious footsteps with a little dash of "Bob" in there for good measure.

August 2007
: What an exciting month this has been! My crazy/busy year pursuing my MBA has wrapped and I've graduated! WooHoo! Life has been settling back to normal for the most part, and I no longer have "homework anxiety". Friends, family and I are all delighted just for that. The degree is the frosting on the cake.

So, down to JRT news. "Star" whelped out a gorgeous litter of five on Friday the 24th - four girls and one boy. They are all hale and hearty and eating like fiends. Star is a fabulous mom and is taking wonderful care of her new pups. What a fantastic bitch line this has been in the prior four generations and Star is no exception. These pups mark the 6th generation in that line. Of course, the pups are absolutely gorgeous! The one male is the spitting image of his daddy, "The Wombat", complete with matching facial and rib markings. The girls are a nice mix of mom and dad. Well, you can see for yourselves below:

Of course, it's too soon to know just how they will all turn out, but it will be fun to watch! It's been almost two years since we've had a litter here and we sure have missed having some pups around the house. Katya is a very good puppy socializer and brushed up on her skills last week when we visited Michelle Ward's Little Eden Farm. Thanks Michelle for letting Katya play with your fun pups! She still talks about "TidyWhitey"! LOL Speaking of Katya, she made her 2007 Child Handler debut at the Sunny Hills trial last week showing "Bob" to a 3rd place finish. She did a fantastic job (and that's not just Mom's opinion!) for her first time in the ring in over a year. Kudos to judge Doug Tack for being so wonderful with all the kids.

Below are a few pictures of Katya and Bob, her compatriot Meredith Lutter and Dottie, as well as the entire Child Handler group shot. Great job guys! Later, Katya and Meredith hung out and played together for a while.

Speaking of Sunny Hills, eight-year-old "Bob" came out to win his Open over smooth class but was bested by two of his grandsons for Best and Reserve Dog. Congratulations to Cris Bolser with Fox Run Spartacus and to Joan Crouse with Sass N Dash Buzz! The Wombat also had progeny who did well at Sunny Hills. Shout out goes to Denise DeCosta and Kimberwicke Jack Daniels of SeaDog who was Best 4-6 Dog and Reserve 4-6 Puppy on Sunday. Great job Denise! Denise has worked very hard on her conformation handling skills and it really shows! Denise - remember to BREATHE! Click HERE to see Danny at Sunny Hills.

We had a blast visiting with friends and showing our couple of dogs. Bob and Nymph particularly enjoyed the lure coursing! That little Nymph sure is fast.  With the crazy year I've had, it wasn't until I got to the trial that I realized that it was the first trial I had showed at this year.

Next, I'm looking forward to enjoying Star's pups and watching them grow. We'll be off to Northgate shortly and then some long-awaited and well-deserved hunting in September.

April 2007: OK, it's been far too long without an update and there's lots of news. Let's start with the most current: Springwood Reckless is back! We're so delighted to have "The Wombat" back home and it's all good things to come for him - lots of hunting and hanging out. We're looking forward to having fun with The Wombat again at home, in the field and in the show ring. Check out Wombie's Offspring page to see some of his cutie-patootie babies. We've also updated Bob's Offspring page with photos of some of his gorgeous get as well as some generations hence. I hadn't realized how many fabulous terriers he was responsible for, considering his limited breeding, until I went to put together this page. Maybe I should call him "Old Reliable" instead of just "Bob" LOL.

Springwood Rowdie has found his "forever" home. Rowdie is such an easy going guy, Merlin the cat showed him who is boss and Rowdie is happy to comply. Good dog Rowdie! We really enjoyed Rowdie while he was here. He was a great dog to hang out with and just have fun. His friend Star misses him, but now that Wombie is feeling more chipper, he has been playing with her so she is missing Rowdie less.

Although I have been extremely busy with school since September, I did manage to fit in a judging assignment at the November 2006 Breezewood Terrier Trial. Susan Travaglini and her family were excellent hosts, the exhibitors were friendly and welcoming and the quality of the terriers was very high. The Child and Junior Exhibitor division was extremely competitive and difficult to judge. Those kids do an awesome job!! I was honored to have been asked to finish out the 2006 Breezewood/Dreamcatcher Terrier Trial season. Also in November, I traveled to Maryland to take part in the JRTCA Conformation Judge Applicant Workshop. Yay for me, I passed!! The next step is to  undertake my ring apprenticeships this summer as I work to increase my knowledge about structure, movement and how the sum of all the parts come together to produce a fine working terrier.

Speaking of school, I am 2/3 finished! In August, God willing and the creeks don't rise, I will graduate with my MBA. I knew taking on a one-year MBA program would be very, very challenging...and IT IS. But, I will have earned every inch of it and hope to make good use of my deepened business knowledge and confidence to enter the workforce again in September.

I wish I could say I'd been hunting this winter, but I cannot. School is just too demanding to take off for a weekend away. But, I am determined to get back into the hunt field this summer as my studies lighten up. I did manage to get a weekend in the field last September with Rob McCaslin and the terriers had a chance to work a few fall groundhogs. I missed my little hunter Nymph, but we had fun with Bob while he worked a hog in a rock wall.

So, that's pretty much all the news of the moment. All the terriers are doing well and have been enjoying the life of Riley. They hung out all winter next to the woodstove in my office while I did homework each evening. They're still enjoying the woodstove on this cold and rainy April day.

August 2006 B: Well, we did make it to the Sunny Hills Terrier Trial in western New York and had a fabulous time. It was so great to have a chance to visit with terrier friends old and new and see some of the fine up and coming youngsters. I was particularly impressed with Joan Krause's SassN'Dash Buzz who reminded me so much of Stubbie when he was a pup. It was deja vu to see another Rebound grandson do so well and look so similar. Maybe Joan and I will be able to coordinate a generations class in the future because that generation would be gorgeous!

In true Rebound style, even at the ripe old age of seven, he can still show his butt off and compete with the youngsters. In Day 1, Bob was Reserve Best Dog, his tail high and his manner impeccable even in the pouring rain. On Day 2, Bob really turned it on and was Best Dog and Reserve Best Open behind another of my favorite terriers, Shirley Buist's beautiful Cairnbrae Pizzazz! Way to go Bob! It was a nice swan song for me as I am unsure if I will get to any terrier trials in the coming year. But, if I can get out hunting once or twice, I'll still be a happy girl!

Fox Run Scoot has arrived in Arizona and into the capable hands of Liane Paulson of Ravenclaw Terriers . It as a long trip for Scoot but she'll settling in and already made friends with Liane's cat. LOL

Springwood Roxie has moved in with the Rubacha family in Vernon, CT. Good luck Roxie, we'll miss you!! But, before she left, Roxie went to the Sunny Hills Trial and kicked butt in the puppy division of lure coursing. She is one driven little terrier!

August 2006: Although we have not been to any terrier trials since the last update in July, nor had a chance to get out in the hunt field, there is some news. Springwood Reckless "The Wombat" has moved to Bernadston, MA where he will reside with Karen Crowley of Huckle Hill Terriers. Wombat is co-owned by Karen and Joyce Robin of Kimberwicke Terriers although he will reside with Karen. We miss you Wombie!!

Fox Run Scoot will soon be leaving Massachusetts for the warm deserts of Arizona. Scoot will be moving in with Liane Paulson of Ravenclaw Terriers in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Scoot will be bred to Liane's fine Conquest Dante, who is a half-brother to our very own Rebound. We have high hopes for this cross, especially considering the caliber of puppies Scoot and Rebound produced!

Springwood Roxie has been spayed and is awaiting a wonderful pet home to find her here and take her home. She is getting used to being spoiled as, since her spay, she has spent every night in our bedroom. She's such fun to have around!

Springwood Rowdie also still awaits the perfect home. He is beginning to fill out now a bit and continues to strengthen those long, sleek muscles. He looks less like a gawky colt and more like a dog now. I am hoping to get up to the Sunny Hills trial in NY later this month so Rowdie can have another go at showing off his fine form. Go Rowdie!!

July 2006:
It's been a while since I made updates to the site so there is a lot to mention. We have had a fabulous spring show season with Springwood Roxie starting out Best 4-6 Puppy at the Yankee Trial. Springwood Rowdie also won his classes both days of the Yankee Trial, but his little sister beat him in the Best Class. But, Rowdie turned the tables on Roxie at the Duchess Country Trial. Rowdie was Reserve Puppy Champion on Day 1 and Puppy Champion on Day 2. Go Rowdie! These stellar puppies, along with half-brother Reckless, also helped their dad, Conquest Rebound take Reserve Best Family on Day 1 and Best Family on Day 2 of the Duchess County Trial. What a family!!

Now, it is with a heavy heart that I must announce a kennel reduction. I am headed to graduate school this September and to make matters more difficult, it is a compressed one-year program rather than the normal two-year program. I know it will be very time consuming to manage school and family. I have come to the incredibly difficult decision to let several of my best terriers go so that I know they will have the time and attention they are worthy of receiving. I don't want to be so consumed with school that the dogs are deprived of attention. They are all great dogs with super temperaments and do not deserve to be virtually ignored for a year. This reduction sale represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire these awesome individuals who are individually talented and very well bred. For more information, check out the Available section.

I will continue to be involved in the terriers, and intend to be more active again once my graduate program is complete in a year. Meanwhile, I will continue pursuing my JRTCA Conformation Judgeship, attend local trials and attempt to get out in the field as much as time allows. I plan to attend the JRTCA National Trial in October and will be judging conformation on the 2nd day of the two-day Breezewood Trial, November 4-5, 2006. I hope to see everyone this fall!

March 2006: The new site is up and running! I'd love some feedback, so feel free to drop me a line and let me know what you think about the new site! All the pages are not completely up to date with content, but it's well on the way.

Meanwhile, look for updates to the Introducing section where soon you can see updated photos of Springwood Roxie and Springwood Rowdy. Both pups are from the Conquest Rebound x Fox Run Scoot litter whelped last November 2005. Other than that, the winter has been pretty quiet and uneventful. Well, uneventful except for my hunting trip to Maine in January. We didn't find any quarry, although a porcupine did find our Nymph...or rather his quills found her. She is just fine, fully recovered once the quills were all removed.

November 29, 2005: Fox Run Scoot whelped her puppies right on time. She was incredibly prompt, whelping four beautiful puppies on November 22nd. There are two males and two females. Click HERE to see pictures of the new pups.

November 2005: To all my loyal friends and readers, I apologize for the disappearance of my website, I don't know what happened or why. But, a new site is in the works and should be up and running full speed by January. So, please forgive any problems with this temporary site...I just wanted to get something up again so you would all know I'm still here same as always. :)

Meanwhile, we have had a bit of news since the site went down in September. Fox Run Scoot is expecting puppies around November 22, 2005 by Conquest Rebound. This should be an exciting litter! Both parents have exceptional temperaments and clear CERFs in 2005. Both parents have great squishy chests, harsh double smooth coats and loads of head and bone. Rebound is known for producing gorgeous dogs and lovely bitches so I'm hoping he continues the trend with this litter. Please email with inquiries about this litter.

Springwood FullOBeans (Conquest Rebound x Springwood Briar) had a litter of four puppies (on July 4th) by Naduah Nitro. Michelle Davies, Beannie's owner, sent the two bitch pups (Star and Spangle) here and we've decided to keep Star. She's a delight to have around and certainly knows how to use her nose! Keep checking the site and if I can grab a minute, I'll put up an "Up and Coming Stars" page for her.

Also, Conquest Nymph's puppies (born July 18th) have grown into some beautiful pups. Springwood Shananigan has gone to Joyce Robin's Kimberwicke kennel where Joyce has every hope she will be a star. There are still two puppies available; check the Available page for more information.

At the 2005 JRTCA Nationals, Springwood Reckless took a second place in the Bred by Exhibitor Dog class. Quite an achievement in an incredibly competitive forum!
